The Bloomsburg Panthers Varisity Baseball Team is off to their best start in 5 years defeating Muncy to bring their record to 3-1 after 4 games to start the season. The Panthers return a core of 5 seniors with varsity experience. Bradyn Zeisloft, Dylan Kreisher, Sam Staib, Liam Zentner, and Hughie Curran lead the line for the Panthers. After a freshman season cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and a pair of 6 win seasons, this group of seniors are looking to leave their mark on Bloomsburg and District 4 in their final ride as Panthers. Coach Mason Fausnaught is in his second season at the helm of the baseball team and has his players all in. “Last season was learning curve and tough at times, but we have a foundation to build off of,” described Coach Fausnaught. “We win 10 games and get to playoffs anything can happen, you get hot at the right time and we believe we can beat anyone,” said Coach Fausnaught when asked his expectations for the team this season. Junior Zane Smith has taken on a larger role with the team this year, when asked about this responsibility Smith stated, "The fellas have faith in me, and I know I just have to do my job. We genuinely believe we can do something special. We haven't won a District Championship as a program since 1966, but I've got a good feeling about our group of guys." This scrappy underdog mentality goes hand in hand with the culture the new coaching staff is attempting to implement. Freshman Hunter Hunsinger is new to the program, but he is making an impact early on earning a nod to become a member of the varsity roster. Hunsinger states "I wasn't around the old coaches, but I like the new ones. We have a good vibe every day in practice and games. We support each other." Gary Smith has been coaching this group of seniors since they were 10, 11, 12 years old in Little League. He has urged this group of seniors to step up and do what he always has known they are capable of. "I have told these guys for years and years that they can compete with anyone, they've been a special crew since they were young, and this is the year," Smith insisted. Come support our Panthers in their quest to make history this spring.
