As fall approaches, with the leaves changing color and outside getting chilly, Halloween then comes. Carving pumpkins, trick or treating, decorating their house with Halloween decorations and wearing scary costumes are some favorites about Halloween people enjoy. Halloween is usually celebrated on the night of October 31st.
Unfortunately, people have opinions on whether or not Halloween is scary. “No, I don't think Halloween is scary because none of it is real. It’s a little scary at the moment, but you know none of it’s real so you don’t have to worry about it,” says Camryn Patton of 11th grade. As someone who does not think Halloween is scary, Camryn enjoys other things about Halloween. From carving pumpkins to trick or treating and dressing up in costumes, she enjoys it. She does not think all costumes should be scary but they should be fun because Halloween is about dressing up. “The idea of Halloween could be scary but like you need some fun in it too and some people are scared of scary things so if everything’s scary, they couldn’t even dress up.”
How old is too old to go trick or treating? “Like 16, because I don’t go trick or treating anymore,” said Riley Hunter. Although it’s a day that you can get free candy no matter how old you are Riley thinks there should be an age limit for trick or treating. Walking through your neighborhood or town, dressed in costumes and knocking on doors saying trick or treat along with getting candy. Most people enjoy all the aspects of trick or treating. Even though people think Halloween is supposed to be fun and not all the way scary, Riley thinks it should be scary because it makes it “more entertaining and fun.”
Do you believe in ghosts? According to Topeaka Covelusky “I believe in them sometimes but not all the time just because I feel like there’s something out there that we can’t see.” In terms of Halloween, ghosts are one of the main parts of Halloween. In an article by Barry Markovsky published on the University of South Carolina website in 2023 says “In a 2021 poll of 1,000 American adults, 41% said they believe in ghosts, and 20% said they had personally experienced them.” By this that means 41% of people believe that ghosts are real and there are a lot of spirit encounters that are happening. Do you decorate your house for Halloween? Topeka enjoys decorating her house for Halloween because “my parents have been doing it since we were little. We don’t do much, but we put out pumpkins.”
Halloween is considered an exciting time of year for many children. With lots of things that come with Halloween like trick or treating, carving pumpkins, getting lots of candy and dressing up in a costume are all enjoyed by most people.
