Effects The War Between Palestine and Israel Have On Students

The current war that is happening right now between Israelis and Palestinians is nothing greater than sad. The war has only represented division between people and it is really an unfortunate site to be seeing in present, modern day time. This conflict has been going on for years and it seems to be “never ending.” Even people that are not even directly affected by the war have shared their opinions and concerns about it. Many people like this even go to lengths of cutting off ties with people that express different viewpoints than them. Situations like this can cause tension between students therefore producing negative effects on them. History and current events teacher at Bloomsburg Area High School, Amanda Zwalkuski, makes sure she does not share her own political beliefs surrounding this topic because of how much controversy it holds. “No, I do not not express my own opinions/values about the topic in the classroom. I feel that it is my job to help students form their own opinions about things, so I try to keep my own opinions and values out of the classroom.” When asked if she sees the effects the war has on students she responds “I haven’t noticed students being affected by what is happening in this particular war. I have overheard some conversations about what is happening, but students do not seem to be directly impacted by it at this point.” Either students want to keep their beliefs to themselves or they want to dismiss it all together because it doesn’t change the way they live their lives. Although this is a sad and unfortunate event happening in today’s time, it seems as if students, if their families are not involved, don’t express care or show effects the Palestinian and Israeli War.
