The first half of the quarter is coming to an end. So I wanted to find out how students were doing with the new rules, classes, and even sports. What I found out was that for many students, the first quarter was filled with a wide range of emotions, making it very overwhelming. The most common one I found when interviewing is being stressed by trying to balance out everything while keeping their grades up. For Logan Kurtz, he said it's very difficult to keep up with sports, work, and school. When asked what the hardest part was, he said, ‘’The amount of work I'm getting is very overwhelming, and it's hard to keep up with some of my classes because of it." Camden Bozarth is already over it and wants this year to go by quicker so he can move on to the next chapter of his life. Matthew Cogswell says that most of his classes are easy and not that time-consuming. Lacey Fry said, ‘’I'm feeling really good about this quarter. I've been keeping my grades up, and I understand the work that is given to me." This information helped me find out that the majority of students who did extracurricular activities outside of school had a lot more trouble keeping up with schoolwork.
Next, I wanted to know what students wished teachers would do differently to help them succeed more in classes. Talon Heverling said, ‘’ I wish teachers would actually teach most of the classes I'm in. I really don't learn much because of how quick they go through the work more efficiently. I would want them to start slowing down and actually teaching instead of speeding through the lesson and then giving a test the next day. Logan Kurtz said, ‘’I wish they would give me more time to finish the work because some of the assignments I can't finish in class and they're due that night, but I have sports and work later, so I end up getting behind.'' When asked about what personal goals I found one common thing everyone said, which was to just pass all their classes. In conclusion, I found out many students had different experiences this quarter depending on what activities they do or how well a student can understand the subjects. I hope this article gave you some insight into how some of BHS students are feeling about this first quarter.
