Inspiring the Future

At Bloomsburg High School our teachers go above and beyond for their students. The teachers help the students to not only learn information required for college but they also help shape us into good students to develop the characteristics of successful and kind people. What does it take to reach this? Most of what it is to reach this is up to the student. Teachers guide and adjust the student along their way which is what they are supposed to do but the same way doesn’t work for each student. For a teacher to go above and beyond is to personalize the way they teach for that student who needs. Help in the classroom this is not easily done but when a student comes asking for help this is where the teacher can make their mark. Mrs. Shultz in room 206 shares why she does what she does “I feel like unless you are able to make personal connections and establish trust establish respect, and support than the material itself won’t matter. It’s impossible to focus and learn in an environment where you don’t feel safe and valued. So if I establish that first then we can work on learning the latin and greek roots and learning symbolism and learning how to use MLA format, but if they feel like I’m not willing to show up for them then they won’t be willing and motivated to try.” This is why doing what Mrs. Shultz does is so important to her, and it greatly benefits us. Yet the teacher has a life outside of the classroom. Mrs. Shultz shares how inspiring students affects her personally “I never really turn the teacher off to be totally honest. I do have a life outside the school, I have my family and friends, but I never really stop thinking about my students. At any random point, oh my gosh, so and so’s audition was today or aw man that person looked really down I’ll check with them tomorrow to make sure they are okay. It’s really exhausting sometimes but that’s what makes me love my job so much, and if the whole job were writing tests and putting grades then you know what’s the point, it’s making the personal connections.” Mrs. Schultz is proof that establishing connections in the classroom can help guide students to be the best they can be.
