With Autumn coming to a close, applications are being sent in to colleges, classes are kicking into full gear, and the workload is at its height for everyone. As seniors begin their preparations for the next stage in their lives, whether it be college, the workforce, military, or otherwise, stress is inevitable for some, and easily bypassed for others. Jamie Nguyen, grade 12, weighs in, saying “The workload for my classes is more than I’ve had to deal with, ever. I have a ton of homework every night and I can’t afford to slack off, because I’ll fall behind.” Jacob Guzevich weighs in as well, mentioning “I’m definitely feeling nervous this year, it’s not a good feeling. Just thinking about everything about life, you’ve got to get a job, you’ve got to go to school, have real life responsibilities. Thinking about that stuff is a lot to take in.” In regards to the workload, Cade Klinger, also a senior, says “I wish I just had guitar four times a day.” With the construction, Jamie notes “The construction really puts a damper on the year and restricts the amount of freedoms that we have access to compared to previous years.” Mackenzie Feese, a Senior, also notes “I feel the construction has negatively impacted my senior year. There are constant classroom changes, new traffic problems, and construction workers just walking into classes.“

With senior year comes stress, but also Senioritis, the phenomena of just not caring anymore during senior year. Jacob notes “It (Senioritis) has definitely kicked in, I think it kicked in at the end of Junior year.” Jamie says “Senioritis is definitely a real thing. After having dealt with high school for almost four years, you get tired of it.”

With senior year comes advantages as well, including those of the Lounge, respect from the underclassmen which may or may not be deserved, and for each individual, unique advantages based simply in how one spends their time. Jamie notes “There’s more freedom with being a senior that you don’t get when you’re younger…. I love being the person that underclassmen come to for help and advice on teachers and activities. It’s amazing to see the freshmen and sophomores get involved in clubs and sports that you’ve enjoyed over your high school experience.”
