The Senior Spin: Homecoming Edition

25gbaskett

As the sun begins to set on the crowded Friday night, the stadium lights flicker on, casting a golden glow over the field. The stands are packed with students, parents, and alumni, all buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The air is filled with the scent of concession stand foods and the sound of the marching band warming up. Cheerleaders in their vibrant uniforms practice their routines, their pom-poms shimmering under the lights. The football team, dressed in their school colors, huddles together, their faces full of determination. The homecoming court, dressed in elegant attire, stands ready to be presented, their smiles reflecting the joy and pride of representing their class. This is more than just a game; it's a celebration of school spirit, unity, and the unforgettable moments that define senior year.

Homecoming where senior year turns every tradition into a lasting memory, marking the end of an era and start of something new. As seniors, we navigate this week with a sense of completeness, cherishing each event from the pep rallies to the big game. It’s not just about the festivities, it's about celebrating our journey, our friendships and the countless memories that have defined our highschool experience. It was like yesterday that we were freshmen who hadn’t been to a high school dance yet. Now we are here the week of our last homecoming as highschoolers.

Class officers are the ones who plan each dance as many know freshmen do snowball, sophomores have homecoming, and the juniors plan prom. As class of 2025 we don’t plan anything this year since we are seniors. But we were once sophomores planning homecoming and Elaina Flick was a part of it. She is not only a past planner for the dance but now a key aspect of it as being on the court.

When asked, “In what ways do you believe homecoming as a senior differs from previous years, and how did you navigate those differences in your roles?” Elaina responded, explaining, “For seniors, homecoming feels different this year than the previous years. With homecoming court being filled with us or our closest friends, it really spices things up. It’s all about us this year.” We went from the least important people during homecoming week to now the most important. Homecoming court can only be seniors and deals with being the big deal for the week and especially during the football game.

Being a main aspect of homecoming, you think about the football team. The Friday night game is the main event for homecoming. Tommy Klingerman knows this feeling of all eyes on him, whether talking about football, homecoming court, or yearbook. Since he does it all. Tommy is a football captain and has been since his junior year. Aside from football, he serves on the homecoming court and, most importantly, as the King. Before the big game, Tommy expressed that focus is the key to a successful week for his team. He understands all the festivities and events happening during the week, but it’s very critical to maintain focus on the game and teammates. Enjoying everything happening is something he tells his younger players to do but to not fall into anything that will harm their performance.
